I started an English class recently and we were tasked with finding books that relate to a theme of “the dawn of a country” so any book that takes place around the formation of a country.
I’ll get in first with the obvious one: Salman Rushdie’s classic. Midnight’s Children.

Idk if it fits the theme because it’s more like the down of a civilization but “The Power” by Naomi Alderman

*Half of a Yellow Sun* by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie is about the Nigerian civil war, which led to the formation of the country of Biafra (though it is no longer a country).
I might recommend looking up recently formed countries, finding out what country they split from, then searching for books about that particular civil war or about [insert new country’s name] indepence.

Anything Arthurian which places King Arthur in the 5th/6th centuries as this is when post-Roman celtic Britain starts getting invaded/settled by anglo-saxons who will form England
Could approach through that lens or looking at how the Welsh legends were appropriated by English writers
