Hello everyone! For the past year I’ve been picking up numerous books, and haven’t gotten through 50 pages in neither of them. Some of them are considered very good books (Atlas Shrugged, My Struggle pt 1 by Karl Ove Knausgaard, Catcher in the Rye), but none if them really caught me.
Thank you for your time.

I think at least Cloud Atlas and Catcher in the Rye are books that are acknowledged to not necessarily ‘catch’ people quickly! Maybe try something with more absorbing prose. I personally found the writing in **Deliverance by James Dickey** to be beautiful and absorbing. Plus, it’s not that long! Depending on what you mean by being taken out of the ordinary and mundane, you may also enjoy **The Master and Margarita, by Mikhail Bulgakov**. Also generally considered a ‘very good book’ alongside the ones you listed.
When I think of a great thinker, I will always default to Isaac Asimov. Perhaps try **I, Robot** if you don’t want to jump into one of the larger novels.
May I also offer **The Wasp Factory by Iain Banks** for a slightly more out of left field choice? Certainly not an ordinary tale. The ending makes it.
If you want great thinkers, try Carlo Rovelli Anaximander. By a contemporary great thinker, about an ancient great mind. But anything by Rovelli is great.
Try [Schopenhauer’s essays](https://lintreader.com/book/schopenhauer-essays-of-schopenhauer-bnwWjWGW) or [counsels and maxims](https://lintreader.com/book/schopenhauer-counsels-and-maxims-nRK3mevb). Great thinker with unexpected perspective on everything. Each essay is short so you can get the point in < 50 pages.
If you enjoy that you could follow up with [the stoics](https://lintreader.com/lecta/auto?q=stoicism) or [Nietzsche](https://lintreader.com/lecta/auto?q=Nietzsche)
