I’m looking for books where right at the start you know where the journey is going, but the interesting part is how the characters get there and which choices they make.
An example would be: They both die at the end by Adam Silvera. The title says it all, it wasn’t my cup of tea but fits very well.
The reason I’m searching for books like this is that I’m hung up on a trilogy I read two years ago (All for the game by Nora Sakavic) and it’s been living in my head rent-free since then. I still haven’t found anything that scratched that itch. And today I figured out a big part of why: I’ve always loved knowing that the climax will be tense, awsome, whatever.
In All for the game, the mc is on the run from his murderous crime boss father. He makes a decision where he will inevitably get found and killed in exchange for a brief time of fulfillment and happiness. Both he and the reader know this from the first chapter, but the suspense is dragged all the way to the last half of the third book. And because I knew what was at stake every decision and interaction carried so much more weight.
I know this is oddly specific, but other than that I’m open to all genres.

All the Light We Cannot See is kinda like that…
*Lolita* tells you in the first chapter what will happen, including >!murder!<, but it’s kind of a different vibe than your other books listed so idk if you’ll like it.
