One book that made me want to visit its real-world settings is Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert.
Her journey through Italy, India, and Bali inspired me to explore these captivating destinations and experience the warmth of local cultures.
Now, tell me about a book that made you want to pack your bags and explore the world. Thanks

The Kama Sutra
Dante’s Inferno.
This one is super lame, but The Path Between the Seas by David McCullough really made me want to visit the Panama Canal. Apparently it is a marvel of engineering and parts of it are so large that it’s hard to believe it was built by people.
Outlander, so turn I went to the Scottish highlands and it did not disappoint.
My brilliant friend
Goldfinger by Ian Fleming. Bond takes a roadtrip from London through France to Switzerland that I’ve always wanted to recreate. Of course the roads, cities, hotels, restaurants etc are all very different today if they even still exist. So it probably wouldn’t compare at all…
And generally just a lot of locations from the Bond books and Fleming‘s travel book „Thrilling Cities“.
I absolutely love Dracula, it’s my favourite book, and I always had a desire to visit Whitby in England. It’s so atmospheric in the book and captured my imagination from the first time I read it as a teenager. A couple of years ago my husband took me as a birthday present and I got to visit the abbey and pretend I was Mina Harker lol ☺️ I have to say it was amazing.
Maybe it’s a silly answer but I always thought this is why Harry Potter was so successful.
I desperately wanted to visit Diagon Alley and Hogwarts when I was younger.
Forgotten Country by Catherine Chung made me want to go to South Korea
Out of Africa
This is embarrassing but Da Vinci’s code. Every time the book described a painting I would look them up online and wanted to see them in real life so badly. At this time my mom was travelling to Europe for vacation once a year. I had finished a chapter in the book, went into her room and asked if I could join her on her next trip. She said yes (as long as I paid my way) and a few months later I was in France and Switzerland. I visited the Louvre twice and it’s still one of my favourite places.
