    This is quite specific – I’m looking for non-American realistic YA fiction that features a character who’d have difficulty answering the question “where are you from?”

    Maybe they’re from an immigrant background but their family has lived in that country for so long they’ve completely integrated and don’t identify with any other culture, but people where they live keep treating them like they don’t fully belong.

    Or maybe they’re mixed race and feel like they’re both too much and not enough of one thing to fit into any of the cultures they’re supposed to belong to.

    Maybe they’ve lived in multiple different countries so trying to say where they’re from means telling their life story rather than just giving a simple answer. Anything along these lines would be good.

    I’d like to find books that aren’t set in or related to North America – British or Asian fiction in particular would be great.
