Looking for recommendations for fantasy books set in the “real” world, where the main character discovers that magic/demons etc exist. With a female lad character. I believe this is Urban Fantasy.
Don’t want books that have one female “token” character but all the other characters are male. (Never got into the Bitten series).
Idealy not YA, but open to good ones. Bonus if its a series.
I liked Charlaine Harris books, not a fan of things like Harry Potter.

Seanan McGuire’s October Daye series may fit the bill. I describe it as Buffy the Vampire Slayer but with faeries in San Francisco. The first couple books have more of a mystery vibe to them, but they settle into their grove around book 3. Plus if you like it, there are currently like 17 books, so it’ll last you a while! They are very much in the same vein as Charlaine Harris, but they don’t have sexy scenes. Any romance is of the “fade to black” variety.
Delia’s Shadow by Jaime Moyer. First of a trilogy. Takes place in early 1900s, like 1914, perhaps, San Francisco.
Zoo City – Lauren Beukes
The Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs although she knows magic exists since she’s a skinwalker. The books are focused on her. There are also several other female characters.
