I’m just astonished by how enjoyable this book is. I’m a little over halfway through, and it’s so deeply engaging and so satisfyingly unpredictable that it just blows me away.

And you know what the really funny thing is? I know how it ends. I’ve read it before. I remember it pretty clearly. But it GRABS me. Bosch is such a disturbing yet sympathetic character. His relationships with those around him are so predictably messed up. His struggles are so realistic. It’s almost as if homeless guys were coming up to me while I read it, by arrangement with the author, to threaten me for money, just to establish ambience.

Now, I wouldn’t call it great literature. It’s entertainment. It doesn’t aspire. But it is very, very high quality. And I just want to say: thank you, Mr. Connelly. Applause, applause.
