Just finished The Blade Itself by Joe Abercrombie. Was pretty good. Also really enjoyed The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch.

    2. Check out Ilona Andrews (Kate Daniels, Hidden Legacy), Patricia Briggs (Mercy Thompson books), Lois McMaster Bujold (Vorkosigan, The Sharing Knife), Darynda Jones (Charley Davidson), Kresley Cole (Immortals After Dark), Nalini Singh (Guild Hunter, Psy-Changling).

Just binged all of the Vorkosigan books last month. While I’m not a super fan of sci-fi, I can’t put them down. Dang. The Immortals After Dark is the smuttiest of these examples, and a lot of it hasn’t aged well, but it is still fun and fast-paced. Charley Davidson books are all about dead people and grim reapers and gods, and there is one very spicy dude who makes some very spicy things. Guild Hunter is vamps and angels, psy-changling is like borg meets shifter, with moderate spice, but diverse characters.

I personally think the writing/worlds of Ilona Andrews or Patricia Briggs are almost as interesting as the Vorkosigan books, with an equal level of spice. All of these are series books with high numbers, so you won’t be left hanging.

    3. ‘The Chronicles of Narnia’ by C.S. Lewis, starting with ‘The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe,’ is a series I suggest for its classic good versus evil narrative set in the magical land of Narnia. It’s a series that delights with talking animals, noble quests, and allegorical depth.

    4. I always recommend ‘The Lord of the Rings’ by J.R.R. Tolkien to anyone looking to be immersed in an epic fantasy adventure. Tolkien’s Middle-earth is a masterclass in world-building, complete with its own languages, races, and a battle between the forces of good and evil that has become the blueprint for modern fantasy.
