The Girl Next Door by Jack Ketchum fits the bill. Fair warning, it’s based on a true crime and borders on torture porn.

The Girl Next Door by Jack Ketchum
This is a fictional retelling of the true crime case of Sylvia Likens. This is told from a neighborhood boy who witnesses the abuse and torture of a teen girl. The evil mother in this book abuses the girl and her physically disabled sister. Her children and neighborhood kids participate in the abuse and torture. The evil mother in this book is based off Gertrude Baniszewski. In the case of Sylvia Likens, Sylvia and her sister Jenny stay with Gertrude while the girls parents are away working for the traveling carnival. Such a terrible crime and The Girl Next Door is a very well written story with great character development. Highly recommend.

If I remember correctly, Ralph Ellison’s invisible man lives in a basement and steals electricity. A LOT of electricity.

Pump Up the Volume by JS Feliciano
Rare case of a novelization of a film script.
A teenager has a pirate radio station in his basement and from there he broadcasts to the community, his views on teenage life and issues along with a string of punk rock and rap hits.
His high school principal is determined to track down the mystery student and bring him to justice.
It’s a fun, quick read. Makes you feel like a young rebel.
