Does anyone have a favorite book surprisingly written by a celebrity? I’m not talking memoirs and tell-alls; I’m talking specifically works of fictions.
For example, years ago I read a book by Hugh Laurie called the Gun Seller, which I remember being pleasantly surprised by. It wasn’t earth-shattering, grand literature by any means, but a fun read nonetheless from an unexpected celebrity author.
I’ve heard Krysten Ritter is a pretty accomplished novelist, although I’ve yet to read her work.
Does anyone have a good/interesting celebrity turned novelist suggestion? Thanks!

When I saw your post my first thought was THE GUN SELLER!
Since you’ve already read his writing partner, why not check out the novels of Stephen Fry? My favorite is THE LIAR.
ry cooder. around 2010 he put out a collection of shorts called la stories, and they are really good. his songwriting was very storyish around that time too. pull up some dust and sit down, I flathead …
Stephen Fry has written at least three novels that I know of. one of them is a replay of the count of Monte Cristo (I think?). none of them are any threat to the greats, but they’re still entertaining.
Julie Andrews of sound of music fame wrote a children’s book in the 70’s, as Julie Edwards: the last of the really great whangdoodles.
Graham Norton and Richard Osman both write surprisingly good “cozy” detectives. And i enjoyed Tom Hanks’ short story collection
Richard Osman authored The Thursday Murder Club series. Really good non-violent murder mystery where a group of retirees gather to discuss/help solve a current nursery in their community…..they also “assist” a local police detective whether she wants the help or not. I really love this series.
And the ass saw the angel written by Nick Cave is one of my favourite books
make love!*
*the bruce campbell way
By Bruce Campbell
*The Memory Librarian* by Janelle Monae is a series of short stories set in her “Dirty Computer” universe. Some stories are more successful than others, but when it works, it WORKS. I eagerly look forward to future works from Monae, but I worry that the magic I found was due to the collaborators they chose as opposed to their own talent.
I did think Krysten Ritter’s _Bonfire_ was decent.
Richard Dreyfus cowrote an alternate history book with Harry Turtledove called _The Two Georges_.
Steve Martin wrote an okay novel called Shopgirl.
Chris Colfer (one of the stars of the tv show Glee) is a prolific author. Struck by Lightning, Stranger than Fan Fiction, Land of Stories series and more. Mostly middle grade and YA stuff.
