Suggest me a crime novel where the criminal is a former detective
I love the idea of a detective who for some reason turns evil/decides to use their knowledge to commit a crime. Though it would be a fairly common premise, and maybe I’m just bad at googling, but I can’t find anything!
William Leasure was #1 on the list, for good reason.
Hope this helps.

‘Gone Girl’ by Gillian Flynn is a modern crime story I suggest for its dark psychological twists and incisive commentary on media and marriage. Flynn’s masterful use of unreliable narration keeps you guessing until the very end, making it a standout novel in psychological thrillers.

For readers who like their crime stories with a dose of cold reality, ‘Helter Skelter’ by Vincent Bugliosi and Curt Gentry is a harrowing account I recommend. This definitive book on the Manson murders offers a detailed look at one of the most infamous criminal cases of the 20th century.

This is sort of the premise of the *Dexter* novels.
I haven’t read it but “The Killer Inside Me” by Jim Thompson might fit the premise.
Murderer with a Badge: The Secret Life of a Rogue Cop by Edward Humes. Nonfiction.
Discovered that cop William Leasure through this Cracked.com article from way back:
