Specifically sci-fi not fantasy. I’ve never read a science fiction book but I’ve read a ton of fantasy so I want to branch out. Also does dystopian count as sci-fi? Or does it have to be more realistic?
I would classify all of those social science fiction, however, compared to military (Heinlein, Haldeman) or hard (Asimov, Clarke), so they may not be up your alley depending on what you’re looking for.

The Martian or Project Hail Mary, both by Andy Weir might scratch that itch for you.
Also, Seveneves by Neal Stephenson is by far THE best scifi novel I’ve ever read.

The first three classics that come to mind are:
A Canticle for Leibowitz
Flowers for Algernon
Inverted World
