Looking for some light reading material as you can see.
I typically go for non-fiction like psychology (most recently Dark Persuasion and re-read Mindhunter), but I was on a big WWII kick before that. I do like serial killer/murder books, although I’ve pretty much beat that topic to death at this point- BUT, if there’s something particularly off the beaten path and worthwhile on this topic I would definitely read it.
I typically don’t read fiction, but I recently heard a **fake** story about a woman in WWII Paris who took her German lover into the catacombs and started a life and family/community of cave dwellers. I would read a fiction book that resembled something of this sort (generally eerie + creepy with some parts rooted in actual history).

Have you read Japans Infamous Unit 731?
Maybe something like Unspeakable by Hannah Joyner and Susan Burch? It’s a biography but goes into detail on the historical context that allowed a Black deaf man to be falsely arrested, institutionalized and castrated.
Tinderbox by Robert W Fieseler was also good. He’s able to poignantly craft an account of the arson of a gay club.
The Torture Letters by Laurence Ralph, with graphic descriptions of police torturing detainees and prisoners.
