I read to decompress so I prefer stories that aren’t TOO heart-wrenching/stressful/scary. I like stories about families, relationships, coming of age, growing older— basically interpersonal and personal relationships. I’m also fine with sci-fi, fantasy, etc. Basically judt looking for a fairly easy read with an interesting, thoughtful writing style.

    1. Bromance Book Club – bunch of athletes get together to read romance novels to understand love and women better. Fun read.

The Lemon Sisters – sweet romance and story about a family trying to find its way.

The Book Shop on the Corner – Jenny Colgan. Woman quits her job and starts a mobile bookstore in Scotland. Finds herself along the way.

      Nonfiction worth the read:

Code Girls by Liza Mundy – a fun, mostly light hearted story about the women recruited by the government to decode Japanese war codes during WWII.

Shit Actually – Lindy West. Compilation of movie reviews of the biggest films of the last 30 years based on their quality compared to The Fugitive. I laughed out loud several times.

At Home by Bill Bryson – he tells the history of modern living by doing deep dives of every room in your house. Why is a corporate office called a board room? This book will tell you!

“Tom Lake” by Ann Patchett. The main character is telling her adult daughters the story of the summer she spent doing “Our Town” at a summer stock theater with an actor who later became very famous. It’s a really beautifully written family story that unfolds in interesting and layered ways as you get deeper into the book.
