Trying to learn more about Native American mythology and folklore but it’s hard to find information about a lot of it that isn’t disrespectful. A lot of information about the subject focuses so much on the “wow look how scary this is” aspect, especially lore regarding Wendigos and stuff like that, and as a result it’s plagued with misinformation in order to up the horror factor.
I’m looking for writing that tells about the mythology of these cultures from a perspective of genuinely educating the reader rather than using it as something to gawk at (however I would like for it to be written somewhat entertainingly, like not using excessively bland prose if possible)

Side note: obviously there are many Native American tribes with different cultures so I don’t expect one book to be able to accurately go in depth on every (or even a majority of them) Native American culture, but I also don’t have a preference for any specific ones so I don’t mind anyone suggesting a book that just focuses on a very specific subsection or anything like that, as long as it’s good.
