Looking for speculative evolution with plot.

I have read All Tomorrows and Man After Man. Both were good books. All Tomorrows has some plot but it was a rather shot read and had more of a bestiary feel to it. I’m looking for something that is more of a coherent story that is of a somewhat good length. Story does not have to focus on a single character, it can still be of a more open ended narrative about a species in its entirety. I would just prefer if there was a bit more detail of what actually happened to them other than x years passed.
