    1. Texan-Trucker on

You might try the first book in the “David Slaton” series by Ward Larsen. It’s not a romance novel but it does incorporate a new chance/fated relationship that becomes the foundation for a great thriller series. Believable action and storylines. Unique writing style that sets it apart from the typical male dominate action/thriller books out there today. If you like the first book, you’ll love the series.

    2. Ernest Hemingway: for whom the Bell Tolls

Erich Maria Remarque: a Time to Live (or Love depending on pubisher) and a Time to Die

also the Night of Lisbon and Heaven Has no Favourites

or at the lighter end Dick Francis eg Reflex, Straight, Enquiry

    3. The Dresden files is more manly I guess wizard detective has a live interest but isn’t overly mushy and the audiobook is fantastic lots of descriptions of spells and fight scenes
