Suggest me a book that will be good to get back into reading. It’s been a couple years since I’ve actually read a book (I know, shame on me) and I’ve been feeling like I’m developing aphantasia? Idk, but it’s been getting harder and harder to picture things and I realized that I want to read as many books as I can while I still have the ability to actually see the movie, if that makes sense.
I want something that’s reasonably faster-paced to help keep my social-media addled ADHD brain on track. My favorite genre, or at least it was when I read, was hard sci-fi. I really enjoyed the Andy Weir books, neuromancer was good, and ofc I loved do androids dream of electric sheep!
Let the recommendations commence!

Hmm, most of the hard sci fi I’ve read wasn’t very fast paced. Here’s what I can think of in terms of hard sci fi:
* Anything by [Peter Watts](https://www.goodreads.com/author/show/27167.Peter_Watts). Some of his writing is available as free ebooks on his website.
* Anything by [Alastair Reynolds](https://www.goodreads.com/author/show/51204.Alastair_Reynolds)
* Most of what [Neal Stephenson](https://www.goodreads.com/author/show/545.Neal_Stephenson) has written, such as Seveneves and Reamde. Some is more like Neuromancer, less “hard” but still fast paced and exciting, such as Snow Crash.
* [Contact](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/61666.Contact) by Carl Sagan
* The Moon is a Harsh Mistress or Have Space Suit, Will Travel by [Robert A. Heinlein](https://www.goodreads.com/author/show/205.Robert_A_Heinlein). Books by Andy Weir reminded me a lot of these two.
* Here’s [another comment I made for books similar to Neuromancer and Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep](https://www.reddit.com/r/suggestmeabook/comments/17rslq1/suggest_me_a_book_with_a_similar_vibe_to_blade/k8mfo7p/), though these aren’t necessarily hard sci fi.
The Culture series by Iain M Banks! Amazing stuff.
Up Against It by MJ Locke – this was such a gem, but ignored. Fast-paced hard Sci-Fi, action packed and fun.
*The Calculating Stars* by Mary Robinette Kowal
*Lagoon* by Nnedi Okorafor, although there are elements of magical realism as well
Greg Egan writes some pretty hard science and outlandish at the same time books
Accelerando by Charles Stross is pretty fantastic
Project Hail Mary is engaging from the first page
Super hard sci fi
If you have even an ap level high school understanding of physics it’s like a detective novel almost. You can figure out what’s happening a little bit ahead of the story and it quite satisfying
