Hello everyone,
Welcome to the first discussion thread for the October selection, *My Heart is a Chainsaw* by Stephen Graham Jones! Hopefully you have all managed to pick up the book but if you haven’t, you can still catch up and join in on a later discussion; however, this thread will be openly discussing up though (and including) **Chapter 5: Graduation Day**.
Below are some questions to help start conversation; feel free to answer some or all of them, or just post about whatever your thoughts on the material.
1. What are some of your favorite characters, parts or quotes? Which parts did you find confusing?
2. What is your familiarity with Slashers and how does their frequent reference influence your experience with the story thus far?
3. Why does Jade seem particular towards the Slasher sub-genre of horror? How might her navigating her world primarily through the lens of Slasher archetypes and narratives influence her understanding of people?
4. Per “Slasher 101” requirements, what might the “overnight” event, the signature weapon, and the revenge motive, be in Jade’s immanent and prophesized massacre?
5. What other questions or predictions do you have moving forward and what do you hope to see? Which unanswered questions are the most interesting to you?
6. BONUS: What would be a good artist or song to accompany the reading thus far?
Reminder that second discussion will be posted on Friday, August 13th and will cover up to and including **Chapter 9: Happy Birthday to Me**.
