I’m looking to sample some RECENT books from each of these genres (like in the last few years, but def within the last 10).

The catch is, my vision is bad, so they need to be available as audiobooks, and ideally popular enough they are available through the national library system so I don’t have to fork out a ton of $$. Some of the bigger indie writers are available, but MANY are not.

I prefer contemporary stories without fantastical elements.

    Thanks!

This is maybe more on the light side of suspense but Alisha Rai’s “Partners in Crime” is a contemporary about a woman who’s been struggling to find a partner via a matchmaker. She nearly gets engaged to one guy but gets scared and ghosts.

Then her aunt dies and she goes to do estate stuff. Turns out her aunt’s estate lawyer is her ex. Awkward. Then on the way out to the parking lot together, they both get kidnapped. Turns out her dad was a conman and the kidnappers think she knows where treasure is. Cue a wild romp through Las Vegas.

I’ve also heard good things about Laura Griffin.

Sometimes libraries have a request a book feature too. My library has only turned down audiobooks for me when they’re Amazon exclusives, because they can’t buy them.

    2. ‘In the Woods’ by Tana French is an excellent choice for readers who appreciate a blend of police procedural and psychological depth. French’s Dublin Murder Squad series starts with a detective’s past intertwined with his current case, creating layers of mystery that are as haunting as they are gripping.
