The BIGGEST idiot in this book, surprisingly is not Luce, but Satan. Why? Because he did the classic villain thing where he started monologuing. If Satan never monologued his plan, then Luce wouldn’t know about it, then Satan can just do his plan without anybody stopping him. But he told Luce, and Luce told Daniel and now everyone’s going to try to stop Satan in the 4th book. Dude, Satan, my guy, you’re an idiot. Classic villain mistake; never monologue.

From Luces perspective this whole book takes place in 7 days, 3 of which are spent just washing dishes as a maid. Out of the 12 places she visits, for 10 of those she’s only there from a few minutes to maybe 2 hours at most, so the story moves really quickly, which I enjoyed.

My view of Daniel and Luce was muddied because of some of their actions.

\-Daniel went ahead and showed his angel form, leading to the death of an unknown number of Mesoamericans, when it didn’t have to be that way. He could have simply opened his wings and carried Ix Cuat/Luce far away. This makes Daniel morally grey.

\-Luce recklessly threw herself back in time. She could have messed so many peoples lives up with the Butterfly Effect, but that didn’t stop her. She tried to be careful but she still made the selfish decision to mess with time. One example is in Egypt in 3100 BCE, she left her Chinese armor from 1046 BCE behind a pillar. Someone’s going to find that, and it might change history.

    Unanswered questions in the series:

\-How did Trevor burst into flames?

\-Since Daniel could see Luces soul in Heaven “beautiful and burning bright”, why did he agree to have her cursed forever without first talking to her about it? If her soul was there in the meeting, why didn’t she step forward and give her opinion? He agreed to the curse without even asking her what she thought about it? Doesn’t true love involve good communication skills?

All in all I still loved the book. It was a lot of fun to read. I just hope the last book addresses some of these issues.
