Books he has enjoyed lately include Skyward by Brandon Sanderson and Skandar and the Unicorn Thief by AF Steadman. He’s read alot of the standards like Percy Jackson and Wings of Fire. Sci fi, fantasy, adventure, mystery are all fair game but nothing too technical or dense. TIA!!!

I loved fantasy growing up! Here are my recs based on some of the books I loved:
Has he read any Diana Wynn Jones books, like the Chrestomanci series? Those might be fun
The Charlie Bone books might also be fun for him
Check out “A Wizard’s Guide to Defensive Baking” also
The books by Tamora Pierce in Tortall are more geared toward girls, but I could imagine any young reader getting into them.
The Circle of Magic books by Tamora Pierce are great
Magyk and the following series by Angie Sage are also great
Susan Cooper’s Dark is Rising series, Lloyd Alexander’s Chronicles of Prydain
The chronicles of narnia series and the LOTR trilogy are classics.
My kid, when he was about that age, really enjoyed:
Aru Shah series by Roshani Chokshi
The Last Kids on Earth by Max Brallier
Howl’s Moving Castle by Diane Wynne Jones
American Born Chinese by Gene Luen Yang
Boxers & Saints series by Gene Luen Yang
Amulet series by Kazu Kibuishi
{{Mysterious Benedict Society}}
The Menagerie Series by Tui T Sutherland (she wrote Wings of Fire)
Warrior Cats
Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard by Rick Riordan
Redwall
Imaginarium Geographica, Owen
Belgariad/ Malloreon, Eddings
Skulduggery Pleasant, Landy
Michael Vey series by Richard Paul Evans
9 book series
{{The Chronicles of Prydain}}
If he likes Percy Jackson then I think he’ll love the I Am Number Four series
I loved the various Dungeons and Dragons series around that age. Dragon Lance or Forgotten Realms in particular. I don’t recall them having anything particularly inappropriate, but it has been a few decades. I’d recommend checking just to be sure.
A series of unfortunate events!
This age group I always recommend hatchet.
