For my English class, I need to write an essay comparing a text to King Lear by Shakespeare. It appears that I am dreadful at finding texts to study. The themes of madness, identity, nihilism and absurdism are tickling my fancy. Hell, anything that you think is comparable to King Lear would do just nicely. Thank you 😀

There is a book called A Thousand Acres by Jane Smiley which itself is a retelling of King Lear
Piranesi
The Diary of Vaslav Nijinski
Challenger Deep by Neal Shusterman
So sorry if this is a bad recommendation but I’ve heard good things about Learwife which is a retelling of King Lear so could be worth looking at.
I also love books that has the MC descending into madness/surrealism. Mona Awad does this well, especially All’s Well which takes inspiration from several Shakespeare plays (Alls Well That Ends Well, the Tempest and a bit of Macbeth)
Atmospheric Disturbances by Rivka Galchen
