I am looking for a book series with a main character going from zero to hero througout the book series. There should be no magic involved. Bruce Wayne in the Batman series by Christopher Nolan or Ellie in The Last of Us get somewhat close to what I am imagining. I like to crime and detective work, but at the same time I’d also be excited if the main character was involved in some personal tragedy/story. Would be nice if there was some romance as well. Not looking for a fast paced action series / ex-military hitman series such as Jack Reacher or the like. Would like to see some character development too. I just read ‘The Watchman’ by Robert Chrais and I liked it a lot. But I’d like to see a cohesive story througout the series and not just case after case.
