I have just finished this book and at some point in the middle it started to feel like something I had already read (or maybe seen) but I couldn’t put the finger on it. I was thinking of the Mule in the Foundation cycle by Asimov because all the elements I remembered felt similar (read that 10 years ago so it’s a bit fuzzy) but I’m quite not sure. I enjoyed this weird tension of searching for an enemy that is also an insider (kinda sus huhu), but was that a common trope in the 1950s? I haven’t read much from that period
