I’m looking for a good cozy spooky season read. I’m happy to be a bit creeped out or thrilled, but I don’t want anything that’s all out horrifying, gruesome, etc. No YA please and I prefer no romance. Thanks 🙂
I find “The Auctioneer” by Joan Samson to be eerie and disturbing, but not full-on horrifying. It’s a very. . . reserved horror novel I guess.
It’s about a farming family, living outside of a small town. A slick auctioneer comes to town, and starts controlling more and more of the town. In a typical scene, someone will visit the farmer family and tell them about the auctioneer’s antics, mention a seemingly unrelated tragedy, and you’ll mentally connect the auctioneer to the tragedy.

“Dandelion Wine” also by Bradbury, is a summer of young boys, but has an eerie component to it, and a couple of tense moments. Wonderful writing.
