Note to the reader — this website will often A/B test and change headlines. I have written the title in accordance to what it was at time of posting for me.

Had a split second heart attack before the end of the sentence. Great profile, but sad to hear about her loss.

I love Margaret Atwood, she’s so clever and ahead of her time. I remember how I felt reading my first Atwood book (Oryx and Crake).

I also remember as a child seeing The Edible Woman in my mum’s bookshelf and thinking what a strange title it was.

    4. I recently picked up a book my father gave me nearly 30yrs ago called “Uncommon Waters: Women Write About Fishing”. Margaret Atwood has a contributing story in the book! I was like whaaaat?!!

That post gave me a heart attack. I thought she had died. She is a cool lady. I had the pleasure to meeting her last year. We talked about werewolf movies.

So, several years ago I read Oryx and Crake and while I absolutely loved the writing and think of Atwood as a genius, it broke me a little and I never returned to Atwood’s work out of fear.

What is the least soul-breaking Atwood novel I could read to get me back into her work? Because I really, really want to.

Used to work for her. We’d do nuts shit like holographically project her across the world (in 2005) and then she’d take the streetcar home because she wasn’t fancy. Wild woman.

I’ve tried to read at least 3 different Atwood books and failed to get through more than 30 pages.

    9. Recently did a presentation on the Handmaid’s Tale in my Canadian Literature class! She definitely lives up to her reputation!

    10. I like her because she sent her 4 year old to the same place my parents sent me (a cult) and being as wise as she is, she paid attention and had the sense to take her out after only months. I was there for 8 years. 40 years later and I often wonder what her daughter’s life would have been like it Margaret Atwood hadn’t had the sense to pay attention and spot a cult before getting sucked into it. When I read her words I can feel the wisdom and intelligence pouring through the page, knowing she wasn’t fooled or sucked into what had been going on.

    11. I strongly encourage anyone who fancies themselves a writer to read the Handmaid’s Tale. She does an incredible job of world building economically without resorting to tedious info dumps

      >Margaret Atwood shows no signs of slowing down

The author has reached mach 1 and her speed is only increasing.
