Hello, this is my first time really posting on a subreddit like this, so I apologize for any non-common understanding. A brief summary, I am a 25 year old male who had a very hard time reading books. Even in school, I would never be able to read books that was forced on me, I had a hard time staying focused, and often found myself either re-reading paragraphs or just skipping paragraphs all together and not realizing that. For a long time, I just never really thought of myself as a big book person, however, I recently started getting into audiobooks and it’s like a whole new world has opened for me. I’m a big movie person so to say it like this is just a longer movie in my head sounds kind of corny but it’s the best way I can explain it. Sorry for the long backstory. Just thought it would help give some context, I’m looking for some book recommendations as I have found two or three that I liked so far, however having a lot of trouble finding new books as I’m not really sure where or how to look. The books I have read are called Aurora by David Koepp, the noise by James Patterson, fallen, and drowning by TJ Newman. I am finding myself to enjoy fiction books as well as suspenseful books. I like the whole surviving disaster/world events, I guess? I am looking for longer books around 400 pages or more and also not anything to main stream or that has had a movie based after. I know those are kind of weird request however, like I said, I’m a big movie person and I don’t like reading a book when I’ve already seen the movie even though, yes I know they are probably different. I’m also not a big fan of Mainstream books like ready player one Or, the hunger games. While I’m not opposed to a book series, I do like one off books a little better. The most recent book I read, the noise by James Patterson, has been my favorite so far. I love the thrill and the horror aspect to it all. I apologize for the long text and greatly appreciate any help or suggestions.

    1. Check out Carrier Wave by Robert Brockway. Has a cool cinematic Invasion of the Body Snatchers type doomsday that is interlinked through different standalone segments.

Also the Narrator’s prose and comedic timing is on point.

    2. I prefer listening to Autobiographies on Audible. It seems like everyone has written one, so I’m sure you can find a person you like.

    3. Listen, I’m going for it. Reading your backstory sounded exactly like me!

If you’re into a great story and don’t mind a series and laughing your balls off, I’d have to go with Dungeon Crawler Carl. I have yet for anyone to tell me this was an awful recommendation. The audio narration is amazing, it keeps your attention and is just a good time. Off the walls ridiculous and fun.

I’d also recommend Project Hail Mary, it’s and Weir (author of the Martian) super good.

If you’re down with horror (though I didn’t think it was scary) I’d recommend the fisherman, just a damn good book!

If any of these strike your fancy let me know what you run into that you like!
