    Hi everyone,

As the title suggest I’m looking for fiction book recommendations as I loved reading when I was younger but have lost the hobby as an adult.

I love browsing book stores but can never seem to settle on a decision with nothing to go on but the look of it and the blurb on the back.

Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit were some of my favourites growing up, and as an adult I loved reading 1984 and Dune. I also loved Matthew Reilly action books too but I assume these may be a little immature (for lack of a better word) for me now.

Any great fantasy, sci-fi or even history inspired books you all could recommend to me? Thank you all in advance.

    1. Cloud Cuckoo Land by Anthony Doerr. Historic (15th century Constantinople and Vietnam War), contemporary, and scifi all in one.

    2. Michael Crichton’s **Timeline** has a group of grad students travel back to 14th century France to investigate a mystery while another group stays in the present to assist/protect them. Much of the book is set in the past and showcases the brutality of life back then.

    3. The 1632 series by Eric Flint. A small American town gets sent through time and space back to 17th century Germany. Culture shock on both sides. (“What is this ‘coffee’ you speak of?”)

    4. ‘The Name of the Wind’ by Patrick Rothfuss is a book I suggest for its lyrical prose and the compelling story of Kvothe, a gifted young man growing up to be the most notorious wizard his world has ever known. Rothfuss weaves a tale of magic and music that’s truly unforgettable.

    5. For a blend of myth and reality, ‘American Gods’ by Neil Gaiman is a book I find myself recommending time and again. Gaiman’s tale explores the gods of old myths and their struggle to survive in modern America, a place of new gods like technology and media.
