Hi, I recently started reading in an effort to cut off my endless social media scrolling and I realized I really love reading, have been hooked for the past few weeks!

I’m trying to find out what I genre I would really enjoy reading most, but have no idea if what I’m reading represents accurately its associated genre. But if anything, I enjoy a good story.

I don’t want to say what books I’ve read so far because people may feel inclined to recommend similar books or genre but I would rather appreciate a wide variety of books! Not only in genre but also style of writing and length.

So please recommend me one (or more if you want) book for each main fiction genre (fantasy, science fiction, mystery, etc.)!

I hope this is okay and thank you.

    1. Historical fiction has a huge presence. Much of it seems to be geared towards the adult female audience but I’m a 62 year old man and there’s plenty for me to enjoy. I seem to be forever drawn to true stories/events that happened in the past, and use composite characters. You learn a few things and get a great story as well.

Literary fiction – Beloved, by Toni Morrison (or Jazz, same author)

Romance – Book Lovers, by Emily Henry

Classic – The Grapes of Wrath, John Steinbeck
