I’ve found myself reading more and more small press/indie lit the past couple years. I’d say about 30-40% of my reading comes from independent publishers. My favorite writers throughout my life has followed a Salinger -> Vonnegut -> Murakami -> Saunders trajectory, and I’ve found a lot of small press stuff that carries this torch. Through some of these indie writers I’ve discovered other geniuses like Barry Hannah and Denis Johnson. I find a freshness in smaller pubs that I usually only see traces of in mainstream stuff. I like weirdo voices, books that take chances (and work, they still have to work). I’m not saying ones better than the other, I like both. I’m not making it about that – I just haven’t found much here on reddit about indie books and wondering where my people at!

Any recommendations for someone who likes books from Chabon, Towles, Doerr, Zafon, Gaiman and Susanna Clarke?
