I am looking for recommendations on detective or spy novels that focus on the main character. I find it difficult to connect with a book when it constantly jumps around characters and events.

I would prefer a book with a competent, confident and arrogant (but likeable) male main character. If they are almost *too* competent, that’s okay. Lots of books in the series would be a plus.

I liked most of the Jack Reacher series, but I absolutely hated Past Tense, with the book jumping back and forth between characters I didn’t care about. I liked the John Rain series by Barry Eisler. I initially enjoyed the Harry Bosch series by Michael Connelly, but found the constant conflict with other members of the police force repetitive and exhausting, so I stopped reading after book five. I recently read Transfer of Power by Vince Flynn, but while I liked Mitch Rapp and I liked the story, the book didn’t really focus on Rapp and he felt almost incidental to the book.

Would appreciate some recommendations, thank you!
