I’m looking for suggestions on short stories or essays that nursing home residents would enjoy as part of a weekly book club. The stories are read aloud to the residents, and then used as a jumping off point for group discussion.

I’m looking for stories that are less dense and academic. Something to keep the group engaged, but something that isn’t trite. They enjoy a variety of genres, so even better if there’s a good collection of stories or essays that would fit the bill. Seems like a lot of the “Best Short Stories”-type anthologies are very heavy on the filler with only a few gems sprinkled in.

    TIA!

**Drive-Thru Dreams: A Journey Through the Heart of America’s Fast-Food Kingdom by Adam Chandler i**s a history about and love letter to American Fast Food and its culture. It talks about where different restaurants came from, talks about off menu items, discusses America’s love of not only the conveyance but the consistence of fast food, … it’s a very upbeat book about a part of American culture that normally gets nothing but negative takes.
