I have been in a funk lately that I fear is entering into full blown depression. I’ve been recovering from major surgery and my progress is slow. Most of the things I’ve been reading and listening too are nonfiction, historical and news related. With the depressing state of the world right now I need a pick me up!

I’ve always loved Thanksgiving and Christmas and am trying to get in the holiday spirit for the sake of my family. What are some good natured and light-hearted reads that take place around the holidays? I’m generally not a big romance reader but I feel that a romance/rom-com could fit the bill. Just something that that has over all feel-good vibes! Thanks y’all!

I just posted, so I’ll just copy:

Skipping Christmas- John Grisham – funny! And they actually managed to make a decent movie

Trigger – pet/animal loss – which I usually avoid but:

A Redbird Christmas – Fanny Flagg – sweet, very different, restores your faith in humanity.

The Shepherd The Angel and Walter the Christmas Miracle Dog – Dave Barry – funny, I’ve never been a young boy, but this seems like an accurate account of one’s thought patterns.

When Elves Attack – Tim Dorsey. It’s part of a larger series, but you don’t need to have read the others to enjoy the gags. Quick summary: world’s most non-confrontational man deals with passive-aggressive parent, rebellious teen, and angry ex-employee with the aid of world’s friendliest serial killer and his stoner buddy. (Don’t worry, nobody actually dies.)
