I don’t know why, but this time of year gets me in the mood for two things, Christmas/family themes and spooky/haunting/horror stories.
I’m looking for recommendations of horror books set at Christmas. Any horror subgenre is fine, but I’m probably leaning towards something more atmospheric and spooky, rather than gruesome and action heavy.
Thanks in advance.

I mean I gotta go with Krampus: The Yule Lord by Brom
The Christmas Bell
by L.A. Detwiler
The Stupidest Angel by Christopher Moore has zombies, a madwoman with a sword, and a fruit bat named Roberto
If you feel like going old-school creepy, *The Turn of the Screw* by Henry James has a Christmas setting (it’s a story within a story).
And though it’s not scary, “A Christmas Carol” by Dickens is wonderful and atmospheric.
For those who appreciate a modern take on horror that taps into primal fears, ‘Bird Box’ by Josh Malerman is a must-read. The concept of an unseen terror that drives people to madness gives this post-apocalyptic novel an edge of relentless tension.
